Alex's October Roundup
here's everything that happened in the month october, minus a few key things
Hi everyone!
This my inaugural newsletter. Yippee! Here’s what’s new for me in the month of October.
Empress of Dust
First, the obvious: I wrote a book. It came out this month. So that was pretty freakin huge. In case you haven’t seen it, it looks like this:
If you haven’t already taken a moment to review Empress, or add it to your shelf on Goodreads, please do! I’m going to pull some of my favorite reviews and put them in a feature I call “Review Spotlight.” Speaking of…
Review Spotlight
Thank you to darkphoenixfan2002 for this great review on BookBub!
Crab Party
To celebrate the release of the crabs, we had a little crab party at Goblin Market (which is easily the coolest place in Chicago and you should check it out.) We even had a surprise appearence from Skrack himself! (If you don’t know who that is you should probably read the book. If you read the book and you still don’t know who that is, I think you’re lying about having read the book.)
PLUS I got to do a DUAL book event with the incredible Sue Burke! We made some happy dual memories (that’s a Sue Burke joke…true Burkeheads will understand…that’s the name of the Sue Burke fandom that I just came up with right now)
You can get Sue’s new book Usurpation here:
In fact…
Review of Usurpation
I write reviews for Ancillary Review of Books, and you can read my review of Usurpation here.
Other Crab-related Content
So here’s the thing. I’ve never promoted a book before. I’m still trying to figure out how this works. But I DID do a ton of randome articles and interviews and stuff, so if you just can’t get enough delicious crab content, here’s some buttons you can press:
Hallowed be Thy Ween
Spooky season draws to a close. In the spirit of the season, here’s an article I wrote about Rocky Horror Picture Show in Interstellar Flight Magazine.
Featuring some amazing art by Bailey Montgomery, who you might know as the voice of Theed on The Stench of Adventure!
WAFLS
I don’t know about you, but I’ve really gotten into the habit of writing 50k wordds every November, and I was super disappointed by NaNoWriMo’s…uh…just kind of everything, I guess? So! Strong Branch Productions is doing its OWN writing challenge called WAFLS (Write A Fucking Long Story)!
Creator Spotlight
I want to use the newsletter to hype up some good buddies, so I’m going to end it each month with a creator spotlight. Today, I want to shout out the amazing H.R. Owen. H.R. Owen is a talented and prolific audio drama creator, best known for Monstorus Agonies but also known for Traveling Light. They recently had a story come out in Someone Just Like You.
Anything Else?
Yeah like honestly a lot, BUT it’s WAFLS time so honestly I just wanna get writing? So I leave you with this:
VOTE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD VOTE
I swear to everything that is holy I will have The Stench of Adventure Season 4 out soon.
I have exciting secrets to share with you next month, when they are no longer secret.
Here’s a picture of Ford-F150 (who is sitting on my lap and purring as I write this)
bye bye thanks for being here <3
